Hi All,
Sounds like an interesting group! Our work so far has included
developing a game about scaling and a basic number line app. We
haven't produced any exciting learning results, but we think we've
learned some things :) In the scaling games, we showed that we can
change students' thinking about "multiplication makes bigger and
division makes smaller", but not necessarily to the correct
conception, just a more sophisticated incorrect conception.
In the number line app we learned that students who used our app
performed better on a subset of number line items on a post-test than
students who played a control game, but this knowledge did not
transfer to fraction problems with no representation. We surmise that
we taught students about the features of a number line, but did not
increase their understanding of fractions.
Is that in line with the kind of work others are doing?
