Yes, FLOSS Manuals has done some group translations in Booki (book-wiki) ,
and we have better facilities for it in Booktype. FLOSS Manuals pioneered
the Book Sprint methodology using its Booki software. Booktype is an
upgrade of booki with a formula editor, among other improvements.

The Booki User Guide explains the collaborative writing and editing
process. Booktype is still in development, so we don't have a manual yet.

Some people like to start with the existing text, usually but certainly
not necessarily in English, while others like to begin with a Google
Translate version. In either case, the existing illustrations can be a
starting point, to be replaced by screen captures in the localized UI and
so forth.
Many of our manuals have been translated to multiple languages. For
example, there is a version of How to Bypass Internet Censorship in
Russian, along with other languages of countries where that is important.

I was one of the authors of the English version. There has been some work
on translating Sugar materials into Spanish, particularly for Peru and
Uruguay, where every elementary school student has an XO.
I plan to move Ken Iverson's Algebra: An Algorithmic Treatment to Booktype
when it is on a production server. You would be welcome to test the Sugar
Labs booki server for your Mbius Nudeln work.
