Position Overview
The Learning Team at LeapFrog is responsible for the educational quality of content and pedagogy across all products including toys, platforms, and web. Maintaining and enhancing high-quality learning design is a core company value, fundamental to our competitive advantage. Learning Designers are responsible for the educational quality of products in one or more domains. This position focuses on how digital media - including interactive screens, books, toys, and environments - can best enhance children's learning and play, including transmedia approaches that connect experiences across media and involve children and families. The Learning Designer: Children and Media reports to the Director of Learning.
Responsibilities:
- Be an internal expert on the intersection of children, technology, and learning with a special focus on innovative approaches to transmedia and mobile learning.
- Advise producers, game designers, product designers, web developers, and company leaders on appropriate content, pedagogy and assessment strategies.
- Review materials and product prototypes and make design recommendations.
- Collaborate with the Research Dept on formative and summative assessments of learning processes and outcomes.
- Maintain a library of related resources and external consultants.
- Stay current on related scholarly and business trends.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of how children learn and develop from infancy through adolescence, especially ages 2-6 years.
- Familiar with traditional and innovative strategies for teaching, learning, and assessment in both formal and informal settings.
- 10+ years experience teaching with or designing technology-enhanced learning materials in informal learning environments (homes, museums, after-school programs) or early childhood classrooms.
- Experience in the design and analysis of learning across media.
- Experience working with or designing for families a plus.
- Familiar with product development processes a plus
- Experience planning and conducting workshops
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Very organized, attention to detail.
- Graduate degree in Child Development, Education, the Learning Sciences, or related fields. Doctorate a plus.
