OsloMet – storbyuniversitetet invites expressions of interest for a joint application under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF-2026). Selected candidates will collaborate with the Centre for the Study of Professions (SPS) to develop a competitive MSCA-PF proposal and, if successful, undertake a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Oslo (2027–2029).

This call targets Recognised Researchers (R2) across a wide range of social sciences, humanities, law, economics, education, philosophy, and technology-related fields, with a shared interest in professions, expertise, education, work, policy, digitalisation, and AI.

Research Environment: Centre for the Study of Professions (SPS)

SPS is a leading Nordic, multidisciplinary research centre focusing on expertise, professional work, education, ethics, governance, labour markets, and societal change. The Centre hosts a vibrant academic community with permanent staff, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral researchers, and visiting scholars, supported by strong administrative and research infrastructure on OsloMet’s central campus.

Research at SPS combines empirical, theoretical, and ethical approaches, with a strong emphasis on policy-relevant dissemination for professionals, public authorities, NGOs, and citizens.

Core Research Areas

Applicants should align their project idea with one of SPS’s four research groups:

  • Professional Knowledge and Qualification
    Professional knowledge, professional education, expertise, ethics, and public policy.
  • Professional Practice and Interaction
    Professional discretion, inter-professional collaboration, workplaces, and public policy implementation.
  • Professional Careers and Labour Markets
    Recruitment, inequalities, motivation, careers, and labour market dynamics.
  • Professions as Normative Arrangements
    Governance, legitimacy, expertise in society, and normative foundations of professions.

Research themes may include (but are not limited to):
digitalisation and AI in professional work, trust in expertise, professional ethics, labour market transitions, professional education, and cross-national or cross-sectoral comparisons.

Supervision and Academic Support

MSCA-PF fellows will be supervised by experienced faculty members at SPS, covering expertise in sociology, education, philosophy, ethics, labour markets, governance, history of professions, and learning sciences. Successful candidates will also benefit from:

  • Dedicated MSCA research administration support
  • Mandatory participation in OsloMet’s MSCA virtual masterclass
  • Structured proposal development support (April–September 2026)
Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD by 9 September 2026
  • Have no more than 8 years of research experience post-PhD (with MSCA exceptions)
  • Not have resided or worked in Norway for more than 12 months in the last 3 years
  • Be willing to relocate to Oslo for the fellowship
  • Demonstrate strong academic writing skills in English
Employment and Benefits
  • Full-time postdoctoral research fellow position at OsloMet
  • Gross annual salary: approx. EUR 75,000 (including MSCA living and mobility allowances)

  • Project idea (1–2 pages) aligned with SPS research areas and identifying preferred supervisor(s)

Selected candidates will be invited for interviews and, subsequently, to co-develop a full MSCA-PF proposal with SPS.
