Ethnography is a well-established research methodology in education, health and welfare research. Drawing upon its classical roots in the humanities and social sciences ethnography is a qualitative approach where the researcher typically places him- or herself in close proximity to the people, institution, or context under study. The researcher’s produces empirical data which enable an in-depth understanding of phenomena and events. This is a joint online seminar with University of Bolzano, Italy – a Sunrise partner – and is led by professors and is led by professors Jonas Stier and Dorothy Zinn, with guest speaker Silvia Stefani (University of Turin). The pillars, objectives and variants of ethnography are introduced and discussed. The seminar is held in English and is open to doctoral students and staff from any academic discipline and has an interactive format.
