to Mathematics Education Researchers (MER) community
The Mathematics Enthusiast (TME) invites submissions for a special issue dedicated to
exploring the educational potential and multifaceted nature of Fermi problems. These problems, named after physicist Enrico Fermi, are characterized by their open-endedness, reliance on estimation, and demand for creative reasoning. They have among other things been used across disciplines to foster mathematical modeling, critical thinking, creativity, and interdisciplinary connections.
This special issue aims to bring together a diverse collection of theoretical, empirical, and practice-oriented contributions that investigate the role of Fermi problems in mathematics education, STEM education and beyond. We welcome submissions from researchers, educators, and practitioners working in a variety of educational contexts and traditions.
