The Tübingen Center for Digital Education (TüCeDE) is an interfaculty and interdisciplinary center of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, supported by the Vector Foundation. With TüCeDE, the University of Tübingen has established an innovative and forward-looking platform for digital education that strengthens both research and teaching and extends into educational practice, particularly preparing schools and teachers for teaching and learning in a digital world.

The position is located within the research area “Transfer and Professional Development.” This division implements an integrative transfer and professionalization strategy. The first focus area lies in the development of transfer strategies in school education and teacher education. A key transfer initiative is the development and expansion of the online portal duo, which aggregates scientific findings in the form of systematic reviews and meta-analyses and brings together outstanding practical examples of teaching and instructional concepts, preparing them in an action-guiding manner for teacher education. A second focus area lies in the research-based development and scientific support of professional development programs for all phases of teacher education in collaboration with the state institutes.

Your responsibilities:

  • Planning, conducting, and analyzing (longitudinal) experimental and mixed-methods studies on the conditions of acceptance and use of AI in school contexts (in teaching and in preparation and follow-up activities)
  • Based on this: development, piloting, and evaluation of support measures for teachers (e.g., use of clearinghouses) for the use of AI in school contexts
  • Focus on a comprehensive understanding of competence (including motivational factors and knowledge dimensions) in empirical studies
  • Publication of high-ranking international publications and contributions at international conferences
  • Pursuit of a doctoral degree is desired and will be actively supported

Your profile:

  • Excellent university degree equivalent to a Master’s degree related to educational research or school and instructional research (e.g., quantitative educational science, (educational) psychology, empirical educational research, teacher education, school research and school development)
  • Interest in at least one of the following areas and willingness to specialize: use of AI in school contexts, teacher competencies for teaching with digital media, technology acceptance model, pre-service and in-service teacher education
  • Affinity for digitalization-related topics in school contexts and teacher education
  • Experience and interest in quantitative research methods applied in experimental, longitudinal, and mixed-methods study designs and their data analysis
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and willingness to familiarize yourself with new areas of work
  • High level of initiative and ability to work in a team
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

We offer:

We offer an attractive position in an inspiring, interdisciplinary, and dynamic environment. Work at the Tübingen Center for Digital Education is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research, the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media, and the Tübingen School of Education, as well as other institutions and stakeholders at the University of Tübingen. We provide support in developing an independent academic profile, participation in junior researcher programs (e.g., LEAD or TüNaPro), and diverse opportunities for further professional qualification at one of Germany’s leading universities.

Application information:

The University of Tübingen seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages qualified female academics to apply. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration in case of equal qualification. We maintain a non-discriminatory and diverse work culture and welcome applications from qualified individuals from different social and cultural backgrounds.
