to Mathematics Education Researchers (MER) community
The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), located in Princeton, NJ, is one of the world’s leading centers for foundational research. Founded in 1930, IAS is an independent, private institution that provides its community of scholars with the freedom to pursue intellectual inquiry, free from teaching and other administrative obligations. Each year, scholars from around the world are invited to submit an application to pursue their own research within one of the Institute's four Schools: Historical Studies, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Science. The Institute is currently inviting applications for the 2027–28 academic year.
During their appointment, accepted scholars (known as "Members") will receive access to the extensive resources of the Institute, including offices, libraries, and subsidized dining and housing facilities. The types of Membership offered, eligibility requirements, and application processes vary from School to School. Summaries of each School's research activities and links to more detailed application information can be found below.
