The Department of Didactics and the Pedagogical Profession (IDPP) has approximately 160 employees. The department constitutes one of the strongest didactic environments in the Nordic region. A common interest at the department is to develop knowledge through education and research that contributes to a more equal and sustainable society. The department's work includes teacher education and research on education, the teaching profession, teaching and learning, as well as development work of importance to school operations. We also work in collaboration with individual schools, municipalities and the Swedish National Agency for Education.
The department is responsible for education at undergraduate and graduate levels. At undergraduate level, the department is responsible for the basic teacher program, as well as for supplementary pedagogical education (KPU) and participates in subject teacher education. At graduate level, we are responsible for three master's programs, one in didactics, and an international program in education for sustainable development.

Phenomenography, variation theory and learning study focus, for example, on how students' opportunities to learn specific subject content can be improved. Critical educational research concerns education as a social and political institution and includes studies of knowledge processes, educational reforms and the teaching profession. The Department of Didactics and the Pedagogical Profession is now announcing vacancies for up to four full-time positions as doctoral students with admission to postgraduate education in pedagogical work, or subject didactics with specializations. The positions will be linked to the department's research environments and preferably to ongoing research projects.
SubstancesPedagogical work is a doctoral-level subject that deals with different perspectives and aspects of work within educational institutions in society. Research in pedagogical work deals with issues of importance to educational practitioners, professions and organizations. This includes the conditions for teachers' and students' work with teaching and learning, both in practice and in relation to policy and educational reforms.
Subject didactics with specializations is a doctoral-level subject that deals with teaching and learning with a focus on specific content that is often linked to school subjects, university disciplines or professional practice. Subject didactics research is interested in the conditions and prerequisites for teaching and learning, as well as the relationship between teaching and learning. Examples of specializations in subject didactics are mathematics, natural sciences, technology, social sciences, languages, Swedish and sustainable development.
Job dutiesDoctoral education comprises four years of full-time studies and leads to a doctoral degree. Information about the education is available on the department's website. The doctoral student will engage in doctoral education and will be attached to one of the department's research environments. The work is mainly located on campus. If necessary, the duties may also include teaching, other research and administration (max. 20%). The employment will then be extended by a period corresponding to this service.
