We are looking for somebody who has completed an MA in literary studies who is interested in doing a PhD on AI-generated narratives with the AI STORIES project at the Center for Digital narrative at the University of Bergen in Norway.
This is a fully funded 4-year fellowship at the Center of Digital Narrative (CDN) at the University of Bergen (UiB) in Norway. You'll be working with a team of researchers in the AI STORIES project, and your job will be to write a dissertation about generative AI and literature using methods like prompt engineering (which you will learn on the job), literary analysis of generated texts and applying and developing narrative theory that's relevant to generative AI. Read more about AI STORIES here: https://www.uib.no/en/cdn/169711/ai-stories I particularly recommend reading the 5-page project summary which explains the AI STORIES project in more detail (https://www.uib.no/sites/w3.uib.no/files/attachments/ai-stories-b1-erc_adg.pdf)
The annual salary is NOK 568700 (about €48000 or USD 56000) and you would be a member of the Norwegian welfare system with standard benefits. International applicants are welcome. UiB has an international office that helps with visa applications and settling in to a new country, and CDN is an international research environment with researchers from more than 20 countries. This is a fixed term four year contract. Typically about half our international PhDs end up staying in Norway and the other half find jobs overseas after completing their degree.
I'm on holidays for the next two weeks, so won't be responding to emails, but you can send questions to mahaut.v...@uib.no who is at work now or email me after mid-July if you have any questions.
