The Department of Education and Didactics is, with approximately 160 employees and nearly 8,000 students per year, one of the larger departments at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The department offers education at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as postgraduate education in education. Postgraduate subjectPedagogy is a research discipline that studies issues surrounding education, development and learning in relation to cultural and societal contexts. Research at the department is conducted within various research groups and research topics, which are presented on our website under Research Topics .
Eligibility requirementsTo be admitted to doctoral studies, the applicant must have basic and specific eligibility requirements. The eligibility requirements must be met by the application deadline.
You have basic eligibility if you have completed a degree at advanced level, or have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (ECs), of which at least 60 ECTS credits are at advanced level, or have otherwise acquired essentially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
For special eligibility, you are required to have at least 90 credits, including an independent work/essay of at least 15 credits, in one of the following main areas: pedagogy, international and comparative pedagogy, didactics, subject didactics, child and youth studies, special education, pedagogical work,
or a teaching degree of at least 180 credits, including an independent work/essay of at least 15 credits,
or a degree in study and career guidance, including an independent work/essay of at least 15 credits,
or at least 90 credits within another social science or humanities major, including an independent work/essay of at least 15 credits.
In all cases, independent work/essay must address a relevant problem area in relation to pedagogical issues, theories and methods.
In addition, very good knowledge of English is required, which is tested during admission with a written and oral test.
