Mathematics, Technology, Interdisciplinarity
15th - 18th September 2026
Linz | Austria
The
Linz School of Education (LSEd) and the
Center for Open Digital Education (CODE) at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), Austria, are pleased to host the Mathematics Education in the Digital Age (MEDA) conference in 2026.
With our conference, we aim to foster the exploration of the evolving intersections of Mathematics, Technology, and Interdisciplinarity, focusing on how more integrated approaches can reshape mathematics education to be more meaningful, inclusive, and future-ready. With the rapid advancement of digital tools and the growing relevance of interdisciplinary learning, especially through STE(A)M and STE(A)M frameworks, mathematics education is undergoing transformation. Contributions are invited that specifically investigate how science, the Arts, design thinking, and embodied learning with and through technology use can deepen mathematical understanding, support diverse and displaced learners, and foster creative problem-solving approaches.
Key themes will include the role of formative assessment in supporting learner agency and growth, strategies for inclusive pedagogy that address equity and access, and the integration of sustainability as both a context and a goal within mathematics curricula. The conference aims to highlight innovative practices, research findings, and policy perspectives that illuminate how mathematics, when taught in concert with technology and other disciplines, can empower learners to engage with complex global challenges (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, sustainability issues, etc.). Together, conference participants will examine how a reimagined mathematics education can cultivate not only academic competencies but also critical, ethical, and imaginative creative capacities essential for thriving in a highly connected, and increasingly displaced and uncertain world.
