git diff: "LF will be replaced by CRLF"

When I enter in <c>git diff</c>, I get a zillion of warnings telling me "LF will be replaced by CRLF" because I am on a Windows machine.  Is there a way I can suppress these warnings so that I can actually see if my directory is dirty?  I tried  

git config core.autocrlf true

but it didn't make a visible difference.
