Dear all,

I want to remind you of our Colloquium today.  It is the last
colloquium for the semester.

Time/Room: 3:00-4:00, SEB 372
Refreshments: 2:30-3:00

Speaker.  Prof. Vladimir Tonchev, Michigan Technological University
Tittle:  Combinatorial Construction of Quantum Codes

Abstract:  Quantum codes are a vital tool for achieving fault-tolerant
quantum computations. This talk will discuss
recent constructions of quantum codes based on various types of
combinatorial designs and configurations
in a finite projective or affine geometry are discussed.

Biography: Prof. Tonchev is one of the pioneers in the theory of
codes and designs. He graduated with a PhD in Bulgaria and worked in
the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences before moving to the United States
in 1991. Prof. Tonchev has over 170 research articles in the area of
coding theory, information systems, combinatorial code design, etc.
His research has been funded by NSF, NSA, NATO and many other
agencies.

We are looking forward to see you and your students at the colloquium.
The area of quantum codes and quantum computation is receiving a lot
of attention lately. The talk will be interesting especially to
people in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, etc.

Sincerely,
Tony Shaska
