Questsare tasks the Dragonborn can perform in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Various actions, such as talking to people, reading books, etc., can initiate quests, allowing for rewards to be gained by completing them. Rewards may include gold, items, increases of skill levels. Successfully completing a quest for a person makes them friendly to the Dragonborn, opening opportunities in many cases to recruit followers or make marriage proposals.
The "main quest" denotes tasks the Dragonborn is compelled to complete as part of the game's main story. Other quests can be performed for a guild or faction, while others are considered side quests, which skirt on the periphery of the game's plotlines. Not all the quests are visible in the Journal; some of them, such as selling crops or chopping wood, are hidden.
As with most of The Elder Scrolls titles, there are quests for each of the Daedric Princes of Tamriel, excluding Jyggalag. Unique to Skyrim are Radiant Quests, quests which are initiated as part of the radiant story artificial intelligence system. These quests can be repeated an infinite number of times, allowing for never-ending gameplay. These quests can be useful for leveling up faster and/or getting gold or loot.
The interface listing all quests can be activated through the map menu or by accessing the Journal directly. The PC versions of the game allow the journal (pressing "J") to be accessed directly, while consoles open the journal, game settings, etc. through the same button. Quests are listed by faction and relevance to the main quest first, and alphabetically second. Thus, quests in the main quest appear first, but quests involving the Thieves Guild appear later. Miscellaneous quests are grouped together on a separate menu, accessible from the very bottom of the list of quests.
The main quest of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim involves the investigation and resolution of the Dragon Crisis, as foretold by the Elder Scrolls. Two factions must be joined in order to progress the main quest, the Blades and the College of Winterhold. "Paarthurnax" is completely optional and can be completed after the main quest. "Season Unending" operates under special conditions; completing it halts the Civil War questline, while completing the Civil War questline causes this quest not to appear, since it is no longer necessary.
Quests performed for the various factions are not considered part of the main questline. Choices made during faction quests are non-canonical, lore-wise. Each faction contains several radiant quests which can be completed an innumerable amount of times.
To earn Oblivion Walker 15 Daedric artifacts must be collected. These can be collected during the above quests, although some outcomes of the quest do not yield artifacts. This is based solely on choices made during quests.
Sorted by place of acquisition: hold, city, or place. Some are actual side quests and have their own quest lines which count towards the "Sideways" achievement. Others are miscellaneous objectives and count toward the "Hero of the People" trophy and achievement.
These can be given by innkeepers when asked about work or rumors. Any of the Jarls or stewards can give these when asked for work. The Bounty Note identifies the type and location of the bounty.
I've got Alto Wine in my inventory that's apparently flagged as a quest item. I can't drop it, and I can't drink it, and every time I pick up another Alto Wine (which I now dread) it adds another 0.5 units of weight I can't get rid of. I even went so far as stealing a bottle of Alto Wine and having the guards confiscate my stolen property to try to get rid of it - no luck.
I got the Legendary Edition for Christmas and got a quest called "Trouble in Skyrim" from the Companions. It said to clear out the Spriggans from Evergreen Grove. I did that, it marked off, and it says to 'Return to Farkas' but when I talk to him it doesn't trigger the end of the quest and there is no option to mention the quest to him Is it glitched or am I missing something completing this?
I tried to find the answer online already but anytime I would search the quest name it brought up info for something not related to this quest. I couldn't find any mention at all of this particular one.
This looks like one of the many glitches you'll be unlucky to find in Skyrim. Do you not have another save from before accepting this quest that you can revert back to? If not, then you should start making a new save every time you save your game, so you always have a save close enough that you can revert back to should you get another glitch.
I'm not so sure that you can fix this. Try speaking to other Companions and asking for work. Either, they'll give you a job or tell you to go speak to Farkas and maybe doing this will trigger it to work. It's a long shot, but other than this, you've just got a glitch and you'll have to move on from it i'm afraid.
I keep my 1 usual save and before I enter a 'dungeon' type area I do a new save before I enter in case it gets too tough and I need a way to get out. Then there are the 4 or 5 auto saves the game keeps on there. I had started the mission near the start of my playing though... whatever the first day I played was I think. I'm a good 50 hours or so into it right now
I have the main quest line for Companions to work through still and I haven't seen anybody else offer work for them yet. I'll keep it in mind though. The one quest doesn't look like it's part of the main quest line though, right? Just a side quest?
It's sad but wouldnt' be the first time I couldn't complete everything. The Sanguine quest in Oblivion glitched on me too because the person wouldn't show up to the party and I had that quest stuck on my list at the end still
The best fix, reloading a save, isn't viable, so my best bet would be to try and cancel the quest, either by talking to Farkas himself or by requesting work from Aela the Huntress. If that doesn't work, try hurting Farkas to make him hostile, go to jail, and make amends with him.
If that doesn't work then I'm afraid you'll have to do without. If you're going for the related achievements, you can always easily start a new save without overwriting your old one. Just make sure you don't save over the other character!
There's an achievement for going to jail, isn't there? I can always give that a shot at the very last to get the achievement even if it doesn't work LoL I don't think I've ran into Aela.. I'll look for her as well.
Farkas doesn't give me an option to cancel the quest or report progress on it. He does give an option to ask for work but it tells me I have another quest for the Companions I need to focus on first. -_- I forget what the next one was. I just rescued the girl from the bandits, so it's whatever was next in line after that. I was tired last night and forget what they told me was next -_-
Thanks again! I'll report back tomorrow if any of these suggestions worked. I'm not sure what other achievements you are talking about but I'll wait and see. By the time I complete everything else in the game, if I missed any achievements I'll start a new file and go back to grab them.
No problem I was referring to an achievement you get for completing the last quest for the Companions. It's not too much of a hassle if you're current save can't do it because you can literally join the Companions within an hour of starting the game, unless the new save also glitches out.
I tried the suggestions. Aela doesn't give any kind of option for work. She offered me training and I could ask about the Companions. I saved a 2nd save game and attacked Farkas but he never said anything about jail and I never got a bounty, so after I attacked him I went to hit somebody else to go to jail, served the sentence (didn't get an achievement, I thought there was one for going to jail), got out and talked to him and he didn't seem to care that I attacked him before. I loaded that 2nd save and tried several times but no change. When I ask about work he tells me Skjor has work for me right now.
Thanks again for the info. Hopefully doing some of the other quests first will help but if not, hopefully it won't interfere with whatever achievements are in the Companion quests. I guess I'll see. I'm trying not to look ahead on anything for spoilers. LoL
An update! I don't know what triggered it but the quest disappeared off my list. I've been doing some quests for Aela involving the Silver Hand so I haven't tried to ask for more work yet but hopefully that means it's not glitched anymore. Perhaps it was doing a quest for Aela that fixed it. After those couple of quests for Companions I did it made me do the one for Aela and maybe that's what straightened the issue out. Who knows. Just wanted to say it's solved though
As for the jail achievement, there is one for escaping jail, not just serving time. There's also one for having 1000 bounty in all 9 holds, if you're interested. Might want to do that on a separate save though, unless you like being a wanted man.
And yeah, I was bad and looked at the achievement list last night wandering about it and saw it was for escaping -_- Oh well, maybe next time I drop by jail LoL I saw the large bounty one too. I'll maybe save that for a day when I'm really bored and feel like causing some havoc I used to do that on Fable also... I'd behave until the end of the game and then go through and slaughter everybody in all the towns *looks for an evil smiley face* A person can only behave for so long! LoL
This page lists every Main Quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, whether you are playing the Special Editions, Anniversary Editions on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch or elsewhere. The Main Quests of Skyrim take place in two concurrent story arcs: the civil war between the Imperial Legion and the rebellious Stormcloaks, and the return of the long thought-to-be extinct dragons.
