Im partnering with My Girlfriends' Quilt Shoppe to teach two classes - one in May and the other in June. While traveling or teaching in person hasn't been feasible for me for a while, thanks to the internet, I can hang out with all of you and talk quilts, fabric and stitching!

Both classes will be live online as I teach so you can log in and ask questions as we go. So cool! If you aren't able to attend the class live or you want to refer back to it later, the class access is available forever afterward. Also, so cool!

This quilt is a perfect quilt for using fat quarters - so if you've got a fat quarter bundle that's been laying around for just the right project - or you want to gather up some of your stash of FQ's, you can easily pull together a fun fabric collection to sew with. The quilt at the top of the post is made with my Notting Hill collection.

The second quilt is made with an older collection that is no longer in print, but I share it to show a different color variation. This would be a great quilt for pulling a bunch of red, white, and blue prints for a patriotic summer quilt! It's also a great pattern for using and showing off large scale prints.

HI Theresa! Great question. To be totally honest, since this is my first time teaching in a live online format, I can't say exactly. I plan for it to go about 90 minutes - give or take a few minutes depending on the number of questions asked. etc.

All RBD Online Training Workshops are live with Mary Ross and include comprehensive training materials and sample forms and checklists. We will keep you posted for additional online training offerings via our HUDBlast.

During the summer of 2021 Dignidad Rebelde and the Center for Political education teamed up to teach an online course on political graphics and screen printing. Our goal was to help grass roots organizations increase their artistic capacity by teaching them about the history of political graphics on an international scale and giving them the tools to take that knowledge and create their own posters. Over ten weeks the organizations participated in drawing, design and printing workshops, all of which were done over zoom. By the end of the project, each organization was able to design and print at least two posters reflecting the work they do.

The workshop focused on art history and praxis, it was crucial for us to provide a context of the poster movements from a local and international perspective of poster making to provide students with the grounding to create their own political graphics. This included studying the work of the Taller de Grafica Popular in Mexico, Cuban poster makers, Third World Strike poster artists, South African posters and many more. Through hands on skills workshops students took what they learned and designed their own posters through a series of workshops that provided them with the basic skill to make their own work. These workshops included learning the basics of using the Cricut for screen printing, a drawing and illustration class, layout and design using Illustrator and others. Through this process each organization created two posters in the class, their first design was a simple one-color print and their second design was a two/three color print that reflected the organizations work. It was amazing to see this work come together and at the same time to witness the growth of the printmaking community in the Bay Area.

This project was amazing! We hope that through this workshop the participating organizations are able to continue making posters for their campaigns, find ways of working together with other participating organizations to expand their capacity and collaborate with other organizations to help them create posters for their campaigns.

Rebelde is a diverse community of aspiring filmmakers from different parts of the country, which is founded by J.E. Tiglao, a young, independent filmmaker based in the Philippines. Together with his comrades, they made films that have showcased in Cinemalaya, Gawad Urian, and other film festivals abroad. Last year, they made their first feature film, Metamorphosis, the first Filipino intersex film and bagged most of the awards at the Cinema One Originals.

Rebelde also created breakthrough events like the Rebelde Film Camp, a unique jamboree of filmmakers in a secluded area to learn filmmaking and to celebrate the magic of cinema. It has gathered more than five hundred filmmakers and film-lovers alike to learn from mentors such as the legendary Ricky Lee, and National Artist for films Kidlat Tahimik, to name a few. Aside from film camps, classes are held by Rebelde as it aims to offer a more immersive and accessible film education to everyone.

In this information era, there is an urgent need for tighter integration of bioinformatics and experimental biology. The enormous amount of data generated by biological experiments calls for extensive computational analysis. Many bioinformatics textbooks at present mainly focus on theories, which hinders the vigorous development of scientific research. As a result, most students are simply familiar with the bioinformatics theories but lack the opportunity to put them into practice. Here, we present our bioinformatics docking project conducted during the self-isolation period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Five students used the RBD-ACE2 complex as a benchmark to conduct a systematic comparison of several open-source online molecular docking programs. The virus surface spike protein mediates the entry of the SARS-CoV-2 virus into human cells by binding to its receptor, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), through its receptor-binding domain (RBD). Through docking and comparing predicted structures to the crystal structure, students gained the opportunity to practice different bioinformatics tools independently and conduct research collaboratively. It opens a window for students to reach out to the state-of-the-art bioinformatics techniques and to keep up with the research trends. The online workshop has also proven to be an innovative method for bioinformatics teaching. We hope our work can inspire other educators to develop strategies to expose undergraduate students to modern bioinformatics and turn every temporary difficulty into a possible learning opportunity.
