Dear Vinu,

Weld bead width should be as per butt groove design (toe to toe of weld groove). after that it would be count in overlap (weld on parent material) which is a defect. Also transition of weld bead should be blended at toes of weld groove.

Hi Vinu,

I assume that you refer to bead width caused by weaving. It’s general practice that for SMAW process max. 3x rod diameter is allowed and for other processes max. 10 – 12 times the wire diameter.

This of course also depends on you Procedure Qualification, you always need to keep your qualification parameters in mind. If you enhance the weaving wide the heat input per length unit will increase and should never come above the max. allowed value.

Met vriendelijke groeten / Best Regards,
