For set on joint branch pipe thickness should be taken for WPS. For WPQ branch OD and thickness essential variable.

For Set-on Nozzle,

For Base Metal Thickness consider shell/ reinforcement thickness welded to Nozzle Wall thickness.

For Weld metal Thickness (PWHT calculation) use below.

Hi

Set In  mostly used for High pressure system it's considered mother pipe thickness only (bevel to be make only mother pipe)WPS and WQT selection to be select mother pipe.

Note if Set On Fillet  weld only applicable,no need to check size and thickness.

While considering the thickness, if it's a dissimilar thickness, the thickness of the smaller one and upper one should fall as per QW-451.1 if the qualification is made on a 38mm thickness coupon, the upper limit you will get unlimited still the lower one should fall within the WPS or you can combine 2 PQR and make one WPS inoder ro cover upper as well as lower limit.

In QW 202.4  dissimilar base metal thickness.
There is a two conditions ,one is 6mm or grater another 38mm or grater.
Based on P number we have to choose WPS for branch welds.

For butt welds L seam, C seam in  thicker material will do tapering, in this condition thinner material thickness we will take for WPS selection.

QW-403-16 for set in ,set on joints pipe OD details given.
