Dear Sir,

If PQR is Qualified with ASTM A 572 Gr.50 To ASTM A 572 Gr.50( Group no II) for FCAW process.

1) Can I mentioned in WPS as a AWS Group No - I & II  Equivalent Unlisted ?

2) And i have received WPS with comments from one of my client ,( The comment is like Unlisted materials not allowed by pre qualified WPS)

Please explain me regarding Unlisted material.

I am looking your valuable replay on my above query.

Dear Kiran,  

Reply point:1 : Refer table 4.8 Mention WPS Range as, any Group I to any Group I steel, any Group II to any Group I steel, any Group II to any Group II (according to Table 3.1, AWS D1. 1) 

Reply point 2: The material & Grade which is not listed in the table 3.1 AWS D1. 1 cannot be used this PQR and WPS to weld that material according to the Range Qualified. Hence client has mentioned this comment.

Greetings,

AWS materials approved for prequalified welding procedure specification are listed in Table 3.1 of AWS D1.1 according to their ASTM specification. Both parent materials and consumables are also classified in four groups, in AWS D1.1 Table 3.2, depending of their AWS classification and strength, to give guidance for matching strength with the base metal in the case of prequalified welding procedures. In accordance with Table 4.8 all materials unlisted shall be qualified in conformance with clause 4 of the welding procedure qualification of AWS D1.1.

In the case of prequalified welding procedures only material listed in the four groups of Table 3.1 of AWS D1.1 can be used. Table 4.8 specifies that requalification will be necessary if the material selected do not fall within the range qualified. The use of unlisted base metal is restricted to approval.
