* CP-189 is a STANDARD and SNT-TC-1A is a RECOMMENDED PRACTICE. CP-189 has
requirements that must be met whereas SNT-TC-1A recommendations can be modified
to met the needs of the employer. A couple of key points for comparison:
-
SNT-TC-1A has 3 levels of qualification (Level I, Level II, Level III)
-
CP-189 has 6 levels of qualification (Trainee, Level I, Level II, Level II
Limited, Level III, NDT Instructor)
- CP-189 requires the Level III to hold a
current ASNT certificate in the method
- CP-189 requires training of Level I
and Level II personnel by a qualified NDT
