Hi,
As per AWS-Section5-Fig.5.4 weld size means - Lug size.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Karthik & Ragu Sir

One more doubt..
If joint configuration like Joint Between 80 degree to 100 degree. we
have to consider leg size for Table 5.8.
& Joints less than 80 degree & greater than 100 degree we have to
consider Throat size as weld size for Table 5.8.
am i correct or not?
pl advise me.

Thanks
Srinivas

Dear sir

This picture is shown in AWS WELDING INSPECTION  BOOK WRITTEN

Depends upon my experience this picture is as per theortical wise ok but as per ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1 SHOWN & WRITTEN CLEARLY

FILLET WELD SIZE SHOULD BE THE HIGH THICKNESS OF FITTINGS MULTIPLY BY 0.7 YOU CAN GET THE FILLET WELD SIZE

WE CAN MEASURE BY GAUGE GAL FILLET GAUGE or CAMBRIDGE

Dear Friend!
Normally the fillet weld thickness is determined
by throat thickness, the design thickness calculated by least thick of
the base metal multiply by .0.7. and actual throat thickness
calculated by least length of the leg length multiply by 0.7 or
measured by Fillet gauge and cambridge gauge.

Have a nice day!

Both Throat & Fillet were mentioned in drawings,
throat symbol=a ,
Fillet symbol=right angle triangle.
as per drawing you have to read the requirements.

As per AWS A2.4, and other than European countries, Leg size (L) is only given in drgs ( for calculation of strenght, designer will consider Throat thick as given in Codes for PWHt purpose-governing thickness)
Most European countries follow ISO 2553 where throat dimesions are being given in their drgs(a)
