Mr. Pramodh,
It might be equal to ASTM A36 or A572 Gr.42

Hello,
By recent experience i have had a confusion as the supplier
produced a equivalent comparision statement from a certain
manufacturer as A36 = 275 , but from my records from past work done
for a internationally reputed client i confirmed that the same was not
true. i have the following clear statement ..

A36 [ASTM A36 1994] general = Fe 360 B [ ISO 630 1995 ]plates&bars =
S235JR [ EN 10025 1995 ]plates & bars
and
S275 JR [ EN 10025 1995 ] plts & bars = Fe 430 B [ ISO 630
1995 ]plts &bars = Gr. 42 [ ASTM A572 1994 ] plts...

no mention of A36

All the same i would strongly advice you should make a
comparision of the chemical composition and all the Mechanical
properties for the steel as required by S275 JR depending on the
application before using the steel supplied

best regards
hepo

Dear Pramodh:

European classification is more precise for structural steels.
ASME is not "known" as detailed as Euro-norms when it comes to structural steels.
Of course, P-No./Gr-No. classification in ASME is still reliable and useful but my recommendation is not insisting on finding an equivalent grade for your material further than P-No (and/or group number) equivalents, especially if your application is offshore structures.

You can see this with J or K grades which are not well-distinguished in ASME or versatility in impact test temperature requirements or weather resistant grades etc.

Hi Pramodh

You may refer ASTM document DS67 for comparing different Steel standards. But you may not find the exact equivalent.

Thanks and Regards

Dear Pramodh;

The equivalent is A 520 .

S 275 Jr is europeen normalisation , S means Structure , 275 is the yield strength JR means 27 j at room temperature for impact test.

As per AWS D1.1 unlisted material subjected to New WPS  i agree.
but if 275JR to 275JR wps can we  considered to other grades those material impact properties  are not effecting (temp  )
Can we consider   these are  single Group (235JR,,275JR,355JR) and weld wrto 275JR approved WPS.

These are structural steels but with impact test requirements. You probably know what J and K stand for or R etc. So You can consider them as P-No.1 materials but with higher grades like 335, you have CS in heat treated delivery conditions (N/Q/NT/QT etc) so they may have different group numbers.

Please note that you should not expect to find exact equivalent but there are grades which are practically the same. You may refer ASTM document DS67 for comparing different Steel standards. but again, you may not find the exact equivalent.

European classification is more precise for structural steels. ASME is not "known" as detailed as Euro-norms when it comes to structural steels. Of course, P-No./Gr-No. classification in ASME is still reliable and useful but my recommendation is not insisting on finding an equivalent grade for your material further than P-No/Gr-No. You can see this with J or K grades which are not well-distinguished in ASME, not mentioning impact test temperature requirements or weather resistant grades.
