Dear All Experts,

I want to know about the Difference between ASME SB625 UNS NO8904 & ASME SA 240 Type 904L,

I have checked chemical and physical properties which are same for both, but still Inspector is demanding for SB 625 Plate instead of ASME SA 240 Type 304 plate.

Dear Kapil,
The uns N08904 is introdused in those two standards are the same (SA240 TP904L and SB625 UNS N08904), but just in chemical and mechanical properties. There is too much restrictions in SB625 other than chemical and mechanical properties. If had a look on SB625 and it had some requirements for dimennsional and tolerances of products which theu are not mentioned in SA240.

Regards

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply but i want to let you know that we have recieved
plate of SA 240 Type 904L, but as per our drawing it is to be SB625
UNS NO8904, so my question is after check testing of 904L plate is it
possible to recertify it to SB625 UNS NO8904 plate.

Assuming,All dimensional tolerances are satisfacory for 904L plate as
per SB625 UNS NO8904.

Regards,

Kapil

Dear Kapli,
As far I know, the UNS No. is unique for each material, it means that if one material introduced with one UNS No. and this material mentioned in two or more standards, they are the same.

what is your design code? in case of ASME BPV, SA240 N08904 is
neither listed (e.g refer UNF table 23) nor allowable stresses are
given in Part II D. if you want to use SA240 N08904, what is the basis
for allowable stresses of this material?
though its strange, also for welding, In Sec IX as far as SA240 N08904
is concerned, it is an unlisted material.
