Cracking on bending test

Hi All

We have bending test for PQ (welding process FCAW , Material CS to stainless steel ) result was fail (cracked). But We check PT can't find cracking .
Do somebody have same problem . what is conclusion .

Hi,

This is not a crack. In dissimilar welding between two materials with huge difference in mechanical properties (in this case ductility) the effect of bending shown as difference in reaction of those materials to the suffered load. this line (probably in CS fusion line) is due to difference in ductility.

So, if this filler metal was used correctly there would be no hot cracks there.
Please try to measure hardness in the area of cracks and compare with those of base metals

This is general problem in FCAW process. This may not be crack, this is problem of interrun fusion. This problem comes only when u perform bend test. If u perform any NDT test, u will not find anything. Increase welding current for ur desire result.
