Dear sn vl,

The base metal qualification range for welding performance
qualifications are stated by QW-350s tables (i.e., QW-353 for SMAW).
These tables lead you to article QW-403.18 which says: "A change from
one P-Number to any other P-Number or to a base metal not listed in
table QW/QB-422, except as permitted in QW-423, and in QW-420.2."

According to QW-423, "when a base metal shown in the left column is
used for welder qualification, the welder is qualified to weld all
combinations of base metals shown in the right column":

BAse metal for welder qualfication:
P Nº 1 to 15E or 34 and 41 to 49 (note that 2010 version has reasigned
5B.2 group material as 15E.1 and that S numbers have been reasined as
P numbers).

Qualfied Production Base Metals:
P Nº 1 to 15E or 34 and 41 to 49

Therefore, if the qualification test was performed for P1 to P1, the
qualification range will be P Nº 1-15E, 34, 41-49.

Regards.

Dear Colleagues,
Can anybody help me in describing method to select Electrode for welding SS to M.S ( IS2062 Gr.A to SS 410).
As per sextion IX table QW 442, A no. will be 6 ( is it ok) and how i can find F no. w.r.t A no. whether there is any coorelation of A no. with F no. or not? OR their function is different w.r.to each other. please help.

If  the F no. is to be selected by experience then how the table of F no. in QW 432 is helpful.

Warm regards,

First You have to select the suitable Electrode/Filler Rod from your experience or based on Technical Literature.

The suitable electrode for welding IS2062 Gr.A to SS 410 is either E309L or Nickel based consumables like ENiCrMo3/E NiCrFe2/3.

Then check for the A.No in QW-442 as A8 for E309L & A4X for Nickel based electrodes

Then based on the SFA number(obtained from Sec.IIC) for the particular electrode, F number can be determined like F5 for E309L etc...
