F91 vs F9 grade flanges

Hi

I have some LA flanges certified as F9 grade as per MTC and TPI certificate. But when I conducted PMI using NITON-XRF machine I have observed presence of Vanadium slightly lower than F91 requirements in some of them.
My query is

If it is of F9 why there is Vanadium presence?

Can I accept it as F9 grade?

What was the referent standard used  ?

Did you get Cb too in PMI?
In that case i suggest to go for a sample wet analysis

  • The PMI result is as follows:  Cr-8.66%, Mo-0.96% and V-0.19%
  • There is no Cb content
  • Intended service of the line is Coke Drum Overhead vapour and Coke drum Blow down vapour line.

Pleas see the extract from SA182,FYI info. I think your supplier got caught between F91 and F9 specification. V to the level of 0.19% can affect weldability significantly. Advice would be to perform a wet chemical analysis on the flanges,if the results are consistent with the test certificate then take the matter with client and seek their concurrence.
 
The supplied material look to be closer to the chemistry of of 91 steel.If so please note that a change from F9 to F91could be quite significant.
