316Ti material - GTAW rod selection

Dear Sirs,

Please guide for the selection of GTAW welding rod to weld SS 316Ti pipe shell.

Can we use ER318, as I searched in Google?

Please  confirm and also advise for any special wedding parameters,  shield and purge gas requirements for this welding.

SS316Ti  contains Titanium which forms Titanium carbide and thus prevents Intergranular cracking in SS, the composition of ER318 is similar to SS 316 except with the addition of Niobium (columbium) which forms Niobium carbide and provides the stabilization effect and prevents Intergranular cracking.

Titanium and Niobium provide the same effect But Titanium forms carbide at high temperatures and sometimes it may not form carbide also Titanium containing SS GTAW Filler rod can be used with an inert shielding gas but due to the above problem, it is always preferable to use Niobium containing SS Filler rod.

Nb or  Ti , both  form preferential carbide Nb carbide or Ti carbide respectively  than Chromium .

In turn Cr depletion possibility is reduced to the extent of none. Intergranular corrosion resistance is improved.

ER318  chemical composition is similar to TYP 316 with addition of Ti
