Dear experts,

Can any one give good and efficient method of underground(buried) pipe
line leak testing method during hydrotest?

Pipe: API 5L Gr 52 MS PSL-2.
Length : Two section 50km+50km (2500 joints approx each section).
Test pressure : 73.25 bar.

I remember hydrotest for 42" condensate line going to offshore, the
complete line was pressurized for 24 hrs to see any leakage coming out
to soil top, but the line was also hydrotested spool basis before
backfill

Srinivas

Dear

Using  dead weight tester

First theoritical volume of water to be calculated

Filling and stabilization at  half  of  volume

air content calculation etc to be calculated

After  gradual increase of pressure and 24 Hours holding required

Regards
Rajesh

Underground lines shall be hydro tested for a time duration of min 24 hrs by using pressure and temperature recorders so that any drop in pressure if noted can be evaluated if its due to temperature variation or due to leakage, this should be a procedure accepted with agreement of the client.

underground pipelines have been hydro tested for a time of duration 1 hrs but line is 1.5 km.this pipeline are tested by without using the pressure and temperature recorder and my question
why do we want to use this pressure and temperature recorder?
can you give me any detail for this one and send some sample copy format & procedure

dear hafiz,

As per B31.4 hydrotest duration is 4 hr for piping system operated more than hoops stress of 20% or more of  yield strength  and LEAK TEST is carried out for 1Hr piping  operated at hoops stress of 20% or less of  yield strength.

Pressure and temparature recorder can be use as specified by client spec or have hard evidence of hydro test pressure and temperature variation.

moreover performing hydrotesting for long hr 4hr to 24hr need recorder to prove that pressure drops or increase is function of temperature at last to get client approval.

hope this clear!!

as per which code you have done hydro test for 1Hr.

Dear Sir
I hope your answer for using the integrated codes and standards but my concerned what are the procedure and method should be carrying out for inspection time.
I need information about this underground pipeline material such as carbon steel, RTR material.what is the code and standard applying for during hydro test time and erection of new underground pipeline should be  open or closed atmosphere during inspection time

Can you make more clear, whether pipeline is coming under 31.4 or 31.8?
