Dear Team,

I want to confirm about the consumable selection and PWHT requirement (chromium content greater than 3%) for tube to tubesheet joint. Material is listed below,
1. TUBE SHEET:  SA 182 F6A CL2(P#6 Gr.3) 80MM thickness.
2. TUBE : SA 213 T9(P # 5B) 19mm dia 3 mm thickness.
Below confirmation is requested,
1. Consumable for GTAW?
2. PWHT requirement?

Best Regards,
M Bilal

Hi experts,
Seeking advice on using ERNiCrMo-3 GTAW wire for welding P No. 6 Gr. 3 to P No. 5B material in a tube-to-tubesheet joint. Any experience or recommendations would be appreciated."
BEST REGARDS,
M Bilal

Mr. Bilal,

Your base metals are, Tube Sheet: SA 182 F6A Cl.2 → P-No. 6, Gr. 3 (13% Cr martensitic stainless steel)

and Tube: SA 213 T9 → P-No. 5B (9Cr-1Mo ferritic steel).

Recommended GTAW fillers are ER80S-B8 for strength-bearing joints. Though ER309L/ER309LMo are

used for dissimilar welding between Cr-Mo and martensitic stainless steels, buttering helps prevent hard,

brittle martensite at the fusion zone. ERNiCr-3 (Inconel 82) is a better choice for providing crack resistance

and avoiding PWHT; i.e., for buttering, you can use ERNiCr-3, and for tube welding, use ER80S-B8.

PWHT is not required for tube-to-tube sheet seal welds. Buttering with ERNiCr-3 or ER309L also helps to

avoid  PWHT in the assembly, as it controls hardness.

C Sridhar.

Dear Sridhar,
Our joint type is tube to tubesheet and buttering is not accessible. What is your valuable suggession for the selection between ER 80S B9 and ER NiCr-3.
Best regards,
Bilal chauhadry.
