DEARS,
CAN ANYBODY CLARIFY HOW MUCH MAXIMUM BEAD WIDTH ACCEPTED FOR GTAW WELDING?

Regards and Thanks,

Dear Senins,

Max. weld bead width depends upon the thickness of  base metal u r welding and  weld acceptance criteria document guide u regarding this. according to a moderate weld acceptance criteria it is 2.5 times thickness ( for 2-6 mm thick base metal).

Ali

Dear sirs,

My customer is asking for above electrodes. Since these electrodes are manufactured only on request, can we use E 7018 electrodes instead of above electrodes?

Regards,

For Arc welding company,

Dear Anil,

It purely depends upon your customer that whether to use or not  "substitute electrodes ".

E7014 and 7024 are rutile-iron powder covered electrodes (iron powder is 25 to 40%), can be used with AC and DC, have light penetration power and falls under F number classification F2.

Whereas E7018 is low hydrogen iron powder (25 to 45%) covered, can be used wither with AC or DCEP, has medium penetration power and falls under F number classification F4.

Respectfully,
Nandesh Kumar A

Dear Anil,

You can use E7018 instead of both E7014&E7024 since the minimum tensile strength is similar and position is covered but this is low hydrogen electrode therefore you have to consider the conditioning requirements moreover you shall take look on table 4.5 AWS D1.1 for the essential variables so that PQR&WPS required changes.

Dear

If I am not mistaken it depends ASME SEC IX for SMAW
welding is 3 times of electrode diameter is applicable for GTAW also
in SAUDI ARAMCO standards. and not to exceed 5 times of electrode
diameter in P-NO-1 material.

It cannt be calculate based on Base metal Thickness.WPS
always says the weaving based on filler metal.
Thanks & Regards

Dear,

Weld bead width only depends upon groove design, groove should be fill and in case of dissimilar thickness it should be 1:3 as per PW9.1 ASME Section-1.
