Requirement of RT as per ASME Sec. VIII

Dear All,

 

My question is about requirement of RT for butt-weld joints as per ASME Sec VIII. We have ask vendor to manufacture ASME CL 150 Bucket type strainers as per ASME B31.3 and ASME BPVC Sec.VIII, but we didn't mention any weld joint testing requirements in our requisition and neither it was discussed before issuance of PO. However we have asked for hydro test.

 

Now I want to ask is there any mandatory requirement of ASME Sec VIII to perform RT on all butt-weld joints of bucket type strainers because vendor is manufacturing strainer from PIPE API 5L - B.

Because we have asked vendor to perform 100% RT on all butt weld joint and vendor is asking for addition cost to perform RT. 

 

Please advise or tell me para of ASME Sec VIII, or other applicable NDE requirements as per ASME.

If zje item is to be Code Stamped then the material has to be
permitted by Section VIII Div.1 with stress values given in Section II
Part D. API 5L B is not an acceptable material although it is most
likely that in this case the material is dual certifed API 5L B &
SA-106 Grade B. In order to meet Code the Material has to be either an
SA or SB material or one permitted by a Code Case.

With respect to your question concerniing the extent of NDE, this
would be reflected in the joint design efficiency used in the
calculations take a look at UW-12, and Table UW-12-

If you fabricating a vessel per ASME VIII Div 1, you can only use SA Material, not API
