Hi All,

There are a couple of Tie-in/Closure joints to be welded in the
project, I am involved right now. No possibility of Leak test/
Hydrotest for that joint..

Project spec is ASME B31.3(100% RT),and
I would like to know is there any requirement of UT and cut bevel MT/
UT,additional to RT specified by the Code for Closure/ Tie in joints.

I couldn't see that requirement(cut bevel MT,UT) in B 31.3......Am I
right ?

I have done earlier UT,cut bevel MT additional to RT in other
projects, but that was as per project spec.

Thanks

hi to all,

As i believe after reading your mail it's a TIE-IN between
old and new line,
if it so, please do UT for thickness checking in the old & MT on same
line in bevel and HAZ( you can prefer PT if the thickness of line is
less than 19 mm).

Hi Syed,

Thanks for reply..
Yes, I know thats the normal practice, UT and MT in Tie-ins..But, Is
there any thing with regards to this mentioned in the code B 31.3 or
even B31.4 / B 31.8..

Regards

Hi VJV,
As per Para 345.2.3 (c) of ASME B31.3 (2006 edn.), you can either do
100% RT or 100% UT. If Project Specification asks for, you may have to
do PT or MT after root pass as per Para 344.7, if nothing mentioned in
Project Specifications, you can go ahead only for 100% RT and you are
right that no additional requirement is there in B31.3.
