Dear All,
Here in our project we have A106 GR B to A335 P11 Dissimilare welding ,Can any on suggest the filler wire and Electrode?
Is it possible to use ER309 and E309.
Regards
Mano

Hi

You can use ER80SB2 or ER 70S 2 and for SMAW use E8018B2  or E7018-1 However you have to qualify PQR . No need of SS electrode

Dear Mano
can you describe the service condition of the joint?(max temp  & severity of corrosive environment)
regards

Dear Kalimuthu,

You can use the consumable for 1-1/4Cr-1/2Mo (LAS) to weld LAS # CS. The issue will be PWHT. The joint welded with this consumable will need to undergo PWHT at temperature of LAS (which is higher than CS - 650C).

Check with Design people as sress considered for E309 would be lower than the P11 hence the strength would not be suffecient enough. Even if you weld with E309 and test tensile to qualify PQR you may achieve the UTS (UTS shall be at least equal to lowest of the two).

To achieve the Strength you need to use inconel grade consumable which can avoid PWHT of this joint and can avoid strength problem as well. But again as it is high temperature service. Expansion to be considered.

With above inputs try to work out suitable option for your usage.

The material is P1 To P4 and  It can be welded either by suitable consumable of P1 or P4 Generally it is preferred to weld by higher grade.

ii) When joint  is to be heat treated, for P4 the min PWHT temp is 650 C

iii) For higher temp. multiple weld of 309L does not give good results and fails in bend

Therefore it is necessary to qualify PQR accordingly  to set min PWHt temp.with respect to test results
