Dear all,

Code: AsME9/B31.1.

I qualified PQR all test passed.
but due to some communucation problems test piece direct went for machining for sample.

Now client.demand RT report for WPS approval?
Is it mandatory to do RT prior PQR testing?

Regards
Mohd.

Not, if ASME section IX is applicable.
Yes in case EN standard is applicable

But almost all the client spec. asked to do the RT for PQR, before Mechanical Test. AS per Sec. IX not mandatory.

Again, you will have to refer client's applicable spec. If specified in those docs., then it is required.

Thanks & regards,

if client spec calls for such requirements , then mandatory.

Usually such mistake occurs ,you can convince your client , by taking RT for the very first production joint welded using that WPS and with  the same welder who had welded the PQR.

the client can accept the PQR, if mechanical & other required test are passed.

For PQR RT is not required as per ASME Sec. IX.
But doing RT is good practice for PQR,because various mechanical test of PQR is carried out, If test piece taken from defected area then there is a changes of faliure of test specimen.

actually RT shall not allowed because it can be used by contractor to select test specimen from the area without any defects !!!!!!!!!!!
