Dear members,I have one pressure vessel to fabricate as per ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1 Ed. 2010. Client need hardness test and impact test requirement. My doubt is that - Is it required the hardness test for welding procedure qualification test because I already have one qualified procedure as per ASME SEC IX with hardness and impact test but the hardness is on little higher side (HV10 340)Please clear my doubt. Thanks in advanceManoj.
This is not an ASME Code issue – Code does not require hardness testing.
This is a customer/client requirement and would need to be negotiated with him/her. Note that 340HV10 (~322HBW) is a lot more than a little high. The required hardness range and number of tests or number of separate PQRs is only a negotiation issue between you and them. Without PWHT, hardness for carbon steel is directly related to heat input, welding sequence, etc. so hardness from one PQR may not be accepted for another PQR by your client unless there is substantial agreement in welding parameters.
There isn’t much help that can be given, I’m afraid.
