Dear All,

Is it possible to use WPS of ASTM A106 Grade B and its PQR for ASTM A333 Gr 6?

Regards,
Parviz

Yes,u can use. Both are P1 Gr. 1.

Mostly SA333 Gr. 6 will be used for low temperature. Confirm the impact test requirement if any. SA333 Gr. 6 may asked for impact test. Confirm the PQR is tested lower than the required MDMT.

Dear Parviz,

You can use similar WPS / procedure for welding A333 grade 6. But in
my opinion it is only possible to use a PQR made in material A106
grade B for welding A333 grade 6 when impact tests are performed on
the test weld. This normally is required for A333 Grade 6 material and
such test is mostly not performed on an A106 grade B test weld.
If there are no impact requirements than you may use the A106 PQR.

Parviz, you have not provided enough information to answer this question. What code applies, what testing is required......

Parviz,

The base material is one of essential variable, if any difference of base metal so the WPS is different too.

I am not agree with Mr Endri as Base metal is essential criteria but check for WPS Qulaification range as P1 through P11 and A106 and A333 falls in P1-Group1 Material and if anyone wants to use A106 WPS for A333 Gr 6 without Impact testing PQR same WPS can be useful.

To Qualify A333-6 Material with Impact test as Supplementary Essential requirement they need to requalify PQR with Impact test requirement but thay can use same WPS

Dear All,

Many thanks from your prompt responce. I checked the PQR and it is Impact tested at -50 DEGC. So it is possible to use.

Parviz

Yes because P no. is 1 in both cases. and group no. is supplementry essential variable which will only become essential variable in case of impact test requirement.

The base material is not a problem. The problem is:
1. Filler material is one of essential variable.
2. impact test it's requiered low design temperature.

For A333 I use ER80S Ni1 filler material.
