You are talking about 2 different things.  BE is not the same as BW.  Please let me explain:

You should specify BE if you are referring to a specific pipe end or fitting.

BE=bevelled end.  PE=plain end.  TE=threaded end.

If you order an NPS 1 nipple PE/BE, you will receive a nipple that is bevelled one end and the other end is plain.

If drafting an Isometric for example, if you are referring to a joint, then use BW (Butt-weld), SW (Socket-weld), but on the material list, the items will be called out as to their end preparation (BE, PE, TE).

Be aware that end preparation differs for Socket-welded joints compared with Butt-welded joints, check your line requirements as per your Engineering department/Customer Specifications.

Warm regards,

Darcy Morin

Butt weld & Bevel End are the same thing.

Bevel end is used for Butt Welding.

Dear Aslam,

In piping aspect we use fitting ends shall be " BE " for welded joints and " PE " for plain ends

BW - is used only for the terms in method of fabrication of piping.

pls see the attached doc for further explanation

I hope that you have to understand the two terms.

The difference I would surmise is that PE & BE are BW, PE could be a BW, which is termed as square butt weld. BE would mean that the ends are either singe VEE butt weld, U butt weld, Double Vee Butt weld etc...

Th BW and BE are not same, it is possible to have Butt weld but the ending maybe Beveled End BE or maybe Plained End, PE

Normally in piping below 2" welding joints is Socket weld, with PE

and above 2" welding joints is Butt Weld with BE, anyhow this may change for each piping class, for confimation please check with your project piping class.
