Dear All,

Can somebody advice me about the use of A234 WPB fittings in the
place of A420 Gr.WPL6 for the LPG line.

I hope,A234 WPB is for medium and elevated temperatures, whereas A420
is for lower operating temperatures. and moreover A420 is having
impact test properties.

So i hope we cant use the A234 WPB in place of A420,even though
tensile properties are same.

In my project,Design Temperature of LPG line is -45 deg to +85 deg.

Is my statement is correct?

Regards,

Thiru.

Dear Thiru,

Your were right.

Assuming your service to be B31.3, A234 Gr.WPB will be a material classified under curve B of Fig.323.2.2 A of ASME B31.3

Looking at your service condition (Design minimum -45 Deg.) this material cannot be used for the said service.

You need to use A 420 WPL6 for your service.

Dear Thiru,

Completely agree with A. Pravean, also would like to add few points that A234 WPB is not good choice for -45 deg, usually limited upto -20 deg, A420 WPL6 is a perfect choice at this temp., with this material used as fitting, A333 Gr.6 is a good choice for piping.
