Dear All,

I have qualified  following WPS:

  Material  :  SA 240 GR 304
  Filler metal  : E 308 and ER 308
Welding process : GTAW and SMAW

Can I weld  SA 240 GR 321  to SA 240 GR 321 material using  above WPS.  All variables are same including thickness range only change is fillelr metal, instead of ER 308 and E 308 it will be ER 347 and E 347 respectively.

Thank you all in advance

Best Regards.
Manoj

Manoj, a valid question, often welding engineers would use a PQR to support many a welding procedures.

Yes

·         If the design and construction code is only ASME –Sec-IX  testing , i.e. and welding procedure qualification calls for  just regular mechanical tests, e.g. tensile and bends.

No:-

·         If there’re additional testing requirements such as intergranular corrosion test, conforming to ASTM A-262 Practice-A/B/C/D/E or any other specific tests required by any client or project specifications which pertains to corrosion testing. Corrosion is very specific to materials type.

·         If there’s requirement for impact testing then  change of AWS classification becomes a variable (supplementary essential variable).

·         If there’re hardness requirements on the PQR, hardness requirements are often related to corrosion properties, and materials can not be interchanged.

Thanks

Yes, u can use the same WPS. you can not use ,only when there is a change in essential variables or if u have impacts in your job
