Dear Experts,
We have a Plasma process for doing Stellite Hardfacing on Carbon steel , Austenitic steel & Low alloy steel base.
The Stellite 6 hardfacing is only upto a height of 3mm on a base metal of thickness varying from 10mm to 45mm.
Is it necessary to carry out PWHT for this process or placing the welded component in a sand bath and cooling it slow, is sufficient enough?

Thanks and regards
Vadivel. M

Dear Mr. Vadivel,

Necessary of PWHT is to be determined on the basis of governing  fabrication code or applicable application standard as NACE MR 01 75/ISO 15156. Either of these mandates you need to do.

In case of NACE applicability, you can read para 3 of A.2.1.4 of the document, PWHT may not be needed if following the qualified PQR's HAZ meets hardness acceptance values for that material.

Regards,
