Hi,

suggestion required for slection fo welding comsumables for AS 537 CL 2 material.

Requirments:

Design ; ASME SEC VIII DIV 2

Material: SA 537 CL2

MDMT : -35 C

PWHT : NO

Thk Shell : 32 mm

Carbon equivalent Max : 0.43

Hardness ; Less Than 248 HV 10

Process / GTAW/SMAW/SAW/FCAW

Whether E7018-1/ER70S2/EH12K can be tested at required condtions for base metal and can be used or not.

Hi!
Yes the consumable you have selected will give you the required results (Impact value will be as per code using low heat input  and hardness value can be achieved with proper preheating of weld joint say min 125 C)

Hi,

Concern is over the minimum tensile properties for the welding consumable, the minimum for the welding consumable is 480-490 Mpa, where as for base material it is 550 minimum,, the difference of 60-70 Mpa is noted between these two minimum specified tensile values, the vendor proposal is to test the consumable to meet the base metal property, whether it is acceptable.(E7018-1/ER70S2/EH12K)

Thanks'
With Regards'
Ganesh

Hi!
In such case where you want to get min 550Mpa It is better to use
EA3 + F8A4 Flux (You can try with Thysen make UTV420TTR)
E8018D3 ,ER80SD2 But use proper higher side preheating temp and Post heating at 300-350 for 2hrs As in your case the thk is less and No PWHT
