Can we use E NiCrMo3 for welding of SS 310. What are the pros and cons.
We have PQR for ASTM E312 S31254 material welded with ENiCrMo3. Can
we use this PQR for the support of above welding procedure as per
ASME Sec. IX.

Hi Venkat,
You may weld SS310 , with EMiCrMo-3 electrodes. Although overmatching with respect to chemical analysis and mechanical properties, this electrode will not cause any problem. However making use of the existing PQR on UNS 31254 material to weld SS 310 would not be possible under the following circumstances:-

Thanks for your valuable information.
Impact test is supplimentary essetnail variable. Please give your
views on in this following conditins.
1. Impact test is not mandatory as per 31.3 for stainless steels till
105 C. But if MDMT - 100C and impact is required at MDMT for each
material as per Cleint specification. In that situation will it be
essential variable or not.
2. In the above situation if qualify PQR as per Sec. IX, impact is
non essentail variable, but if i have to qualify as per cleint, then
it is suppplimentary variable.
3. Impact as supplientary variable depends on MDMT or applicable
only when practicaly if we conduct impact test irrespective of temp.
Please clarify.
