Dear Experts,

I have a question regarding the allowable maximum deviation ( as per ASME SEC iX) for heat input, current, and voltage from the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) when drafting the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).

Best Regards
Rithvik.

Dear Rithvik,

No deviation

As QW-409.1 says An increase in heat input, or an increase in volume of weld metal deposited per unit length of weld, for each process recorded on the PQR.

As per QW-250 Tables, QW-409.1 is a supplementary essential variable.

Only impact test applicable PQR only need to record heat input.
other PQR no need.
heat input increases impact values decrease. So we have to maintain current, travel speed.

If the application include Austenitic stainless steel and intergrannular or other type of corrosion is concern of design then heat input becomes an essential variable, this is not due to sec IX , but fitness for purpose.
