Dear All,

I want to qualify some welders based on EN 287-1 and prepare WPQT Certificates&ID cards.I have some doubts to be clarified based only on EN 287-1.

1. Is it mandatory that client approved third party has to witness the WPQT as per EN 287-1?
2. Is it mandatory that Welder Performance Qualification Test Certificates&Identity Cards shall be prepared, signed and stamped by client approved third party?

It will be highly appreciated if some could explain it by mentioning the corresponding clause as per EN 287-1.

Regards,

Limesh

Dear Karthik Sir,

Thank you very much for the reply and attaching the corresponding clauses. But my doubt is that, only third party inspection agencies are considered as the examining body as per EN 287-1,edition 2004? Suppose, I am a person working in a company's/manufacturer's independent QA/QC department and has been approved by the client to carry out QA/QC (Welding) Jobs and sign off the pertaining documents. Is it possible for me to conduct the WPQT if my client Inspector (Client inspector working under client’s pay roll and please doesn’t mix it with third party representative) is witnessing the WPQT as per EN 287-1? Is there any problem for me to prepare the WPQT certificate and ID cards prepared, signed and sealed by myself and client inspector as per EN 287-1 Annex A?

Expecting other members views also on this matter.

Regards,

In General it is not required to be certified by TPI,  here examiner refers to “person who has been appointed to verify compliance with the applicable standard” need not be a third party unless your contract specifies for an external examiner or PED requirements are applicable (in case of PED local NoBo requirements will govern), refer para 3.2 and 3.3 terms and definitions

Hi,
Yes You can if your client accepts or project specification doesnt require any third party involvement in Welder and Welding procedure qualifications..But if the vessel send to europe, then it shall be approved by Examiner or Examining body(TUV.Lloyd's,BV etc.,) might be with CE mark.
