Dear Expert,

I have a WPS for SMAW+SAW process Material SA 516 GR.60/70 with PWHT requirements of 631°C temperature and 450 minutes holding time.

Now, I have a new project with PWHT requirements of 600±25°C temperature and 3 hours holding time.

Can I use the existing WPS for this new project? What is the acceptable deviation (±) for PWHT requirements?

Looking forward to your guidance.

Best regards,
Pankaj Choudhary

The PWHT is an essential parameter. The existing WPS can be used if the PWHT temperature range is within ±25°C

of the prior 631°C. Still, a holding time deviation, from 450 minutes to 180 minutes, generally requires requalification

or validation. Holding time is much stricter and should be based on material thickness and code passivity.

According to ASME section VIII Div 1, yes we have impact requirement at -20°C.

Mr. Pankaj,
When you are expecting a solution for your problem, Please furnish all the info. at a time and not one after another.
Now u r mentioning about the impact requirement. What is the governing thickness of the welded part and whether
it is normalised or as rolled /quenched and tempered/fine grained steel.
