I don’t know from which country you are asking for, as far as I know there is a company in Bangalore, India called Fawcett Christie which manufactures Actuators to AS1210, it is better you directly approach the accreditation body in your country which issues certification to AS3920/4343 etc., for info and more details.

Also I understand it makes difference the location of vessel erection. If the vessel will be installed in Australia, the eastern states in accordance with AS 1210/4343. In Western Australia applies AS 3920.1, which require in addition to AS 1210.

ASME code is much more comprehensive than AS 1210, but not as competitive in finished product as the German, Australian or even Russian code designed PV's. In AS 1210 the safety factor is lower than ASME code (3.5 vs. 4.0), resulting in thinner wall, lighter vessel, less expensive.

However the allowable stress is the same in both I believe.

The attachment gives basic idea on product conformance requirements to Australian, European, American and ISO systems, which was prepared by WTIA (Welding Technology Institute of Australia).

Dear all,

One of our pressure is vessel is going to be manufactured with ASTM A265 plate. Vendor has asked us that the plate quality is with BOND QUALITY          : ASTM A265 CLASS 1 will be used for this vessel. Our client spec also do not call for any kind of BOND quality.

I am not able to find out what is any type of BOND QUALITY ( I am interested in CLASS 1) in A265  and what other bond quality are available ? Please throw some light.

Thanks in advance.

Probably he is refering to Ultrasonic testing which was reffered in
late 90's as class 1,2 etc.. in A578, now changed to clss A,B,C...
please check

or base material class, not for the clad or bonding
for the base material if he uses any of the following grades it will
under class I (other than fully killed with specified tensile strength
of 450Mpa or lower)
A285 GrA/B/C, A442 Gr55/60 etc.

ASTM A265 refers only the following test
Bond Strength-When required by the purchaser, three
bend tests shall be made with the cladding metal in compression
to determine the quality of the bond. Bends shall be made
in accordance with the specifications for the base metal. At
least two out of the three tests shall show not more than 50 %
separation on both edges of the bent portion. Greater separation
shall be cause for rejection.

you may ask you vendor to clarify, they might having their own
stanadard which indiacte diferent quality/class levels?

Raghu,

Things are sorted out. Bond quality for clad plates is given in the
latest edition of SA265, clause-13.

I think this kind of confusion is understandable when we keep referring
to the old editions, we have been carrying for so long in pdf files.
