Dear All,

Kindly share your views for the following queries;

1. almost for all codes ASME B 31.3, ASME sec.VIII div.1, ASME B 31.4
etc, the acceptance criteria for rounded indications (mostly pores)
are T/3 for isolated & T/4 for random..but if few indications are
grouped together (with .1mm gap) also we have to consider the
individual size and not the cumulative size (if cumulative then
definitely can count as a defect!). is anywhere mentioned about the
clearance of indications...because contractor is defending even for
too packed gaps...please share
2. It is strange to note that there are no criteria given for group
slags...though there are no. of slags (individual size acceptable),
could not be deemed as rejected eventhough these groupd would weaken
the welds! please share.

Thanks much in advance,
Kumar.

Dear Kumar

For NDT defects SLAGS and POROSITY check acceptance criteria in
API5L 45 EDITION PAGE-104-CLAUSE-E.4.7 Tractability of Radio Graphic Images.

Also you can go through API 1104--Acceptance Standard for Non destructive testing(Check in this Code) hope your doubt will be clear.

NOTE:--Also in so many job acceptance/rejection depends upon client specification and Applicable Code and Standard--So Better  thing is prior start to job contractor/manufacturer or fabricator should make  internal ITP ( Inspection Test Plan) and Acceptance/ Rejection Criteria  as per INTERNATIONAL CODE and STANDARD  and should take approval from client/contractor  to start tension free job.

Also better  thing is  before to start  job  perform PQT and prepare PQR and take approval   from contractor /client and start tension free job.

Because here you didn't mentioned about you exact Job.so i can't explain you more.

For more query explain about your Job in details.
