Dear all

I have one query about cladding. In our GTL project slug catcher is going on with construction code of B31.8. We have one pipe line of material 1SO 3183-3 L450 MCS with 3mm inconel cladding. As per our method statement we should require minimum 5mm de- cladding from the bevel edge before fit-up with machining or grinding.

So my question is, how we conform or ensure that cladding material is removed or not?

Dear Javed,

After decladding, perform PMI & check the chemical composition, accordingly you shall decide.

If the Clad is on CS/LAS To confirm complete removal of clad, apply Coper sulphate solution  on this area . Surface turns redish , It confirms that there is no contamination of clad is left over

Dear Javed,

After de-cladding you have to use the CuSO4 (Copper Sulfate) solution for etching the decladding area. Upon swabbing the exposed CS will show the copper shade (later on will turn to clack or dark braown) and if any Inconel present it will not show any change in the colour /shine..

If shiny portion is still exist in your back clad area, do some grinidingto remove it completely and repeat the above test again.

Regards.
