Difference between weld cladding, weld overlay and hard facing ?

Please explain the difference between weld cladding, weld overlay and hard facing ?

Dear Friend,

Cladding refers to the Metallurgical Bonded CRA layer.

Weld Overlay is a Type of Cladding in which Weld metal is deposited on a parent Material using appropriate welding Process.(Others Include Explosion Bonding, Roll Bonding etc..)

Hard Facing Overlay  is a Type of Deposition intended for Wear & Tear Control.

Normally as per code there are 2 terminologies.

1. Corrosion resistance overlay which includes cladding.

       Cladding may be applied by below means

          a. Explosive cladding

          b. Hot roll cladding or bonding

          c. Weld overlay like Electroslag strip cladding, SAW strip cladding or any other welding process.

2. Hard facing overlay which is used for Wear resistance process
