Dear Experts, I need an advice on following mentioned case.

What should be the fillet size of stiffner attachment weld as per ASME sec-VIII Div-2 ? It is basically a rib welding on non-pressure part but still component is a loading member similar to rib welding in saddle supports.

Component : Rib welding to the support structure

Material : SS304

Construction code : ASME sec-VIII Div.2

Mentioned the clause no. if possible.

Regards,
VJ

T X 0.7 = FILLET SIZE
T= MIN WALL THIK.

Hi.....
A series of equations can be used to determine weld sizes for various angular orientations and required throat dimensions. Since the weld sizes on either side of the joint are not necessarily required to be of the same size, there are a variety of combinations that can be used to transfer the loads across the joint

for detail, you should refer to this link : fillet size

Hi Jun
Before measuring the weld size, ensure that the fillet weld is not convex or concave. Dimension fillet welds depends on its weld symbol. See the mark on the left of the weld symbol (triangle). 'Z' is indicating leg length (Z 10 means 10 mm leg length). 'a' is indicating throat thickness (a 7 means 7 mm throat thickness).

Dear VJ,

As this a non pressure part, U can refer to table 5.8 in AWS D1.1 page 183, 194  as well as you can refer to page 73 notes for additional information.

To define specified fillet size is a minimum leg size as mentioned in page  128 in D1.1

With regards

Vimal Kumar

Dear experts,

can anyone suggest me an weld edge preparation in option of fillet weld of T joint. Material detail.joint should be an equal strength of base metal.

Horizontal plate thk : 100

vertical plate thk : 70mm

Material : SS304
